Out of the entire roster, the pitcher is the most important player on a baseball team. The biggest reason a pitcher is so important and necessary in baseball is because they control the pace of the game from the pitcher's mound and carry the burden of preventing batters from hitting the ball before they're even capable of scoring. For this reason a pitcher needs to be well trained in all of the different pitching grips. This equips them to strike out even the most successful in the game.
The most common grip used by pitchers is the four seam fastball. This is considered the most controllable of the pitching grips and provides the pitcher with high speeds and great accuracy. To use this grip, a pitcher holds and throws the baseball naturally. A two finger fastball is done by placing your fingers across the narrow part of the seems. The result of this pitch is a sinking fastball. Another grip is the split finger fastball, which is also more commonly referred to as a splitter. In order to perform this grip, a pitcher must hold the ball with his index and middle finger on opposite sides of the ball.
The changeup is a very popular and useful pitching grip. This grip is difficult to pull off and requires a lot of practice before applying to one's game. The main idea is to deceive the batter by exerting a lot of energy but throwing it much slower and lower in the strike zone than the batter expects, resulting in a well earned strike.
One of the most popular and common pitches is the curveball. There are a few different types of curveballs that can be thrown, including the beginner's curveball, straight curveball, and a knuckleball curveball. To throw a curveball the middle finger is placed on the inside of the seam with pressure applied to the ball as it is thrown. The goal of a knuckleball is to throw the baseball with rotating it at all in the air. In order to the throw a knuckleball, one must grip the ball the seams with their index and forefinger like a claw and dig their nails into the seams. This is the most difficult of the pitching grips to handle for pitchers, as well as for hitters and catchers. If a pitcher masters these grips, then nothing can stop him.
